Why have magazines and tv started advocating calorie-counting??
I have noticed that magazines and tv shows as well as commercials have started advocating that people count calories in their foods, and give guidelines for how much exercize must be done to counteract eating these foods. Also, ads for foods and food packaging are placing more emphasis on calories. Don’t they know that this could be as harmful as obesity? When they compare workouts with foods they are basically advocating exercize bulimia, which can be an emotionally and mentally debilitating condition. I know from personal experience and having to hear about it all the time on TV and in print doesn’t help. Why do they think its a good idea to guilt people into being healthy, possibly leading them to eating disorders??
Yea calorie counting can feel awful, have done it, you go crazy! We need to emphasize a healthy relationship with food! Its there to sustain us and make us into healthy beings (the healthy food anyways) I a firm believer that if you eat a senible diet of good healthy foods and ample healthy fats, you calories will automatically be in control. No longer do we need to use the amazing ability of stomach to stretch in order to sustain us for long duration of time, such as when we use to hunt. We can eat more frequently if we choose, but this does not mean pig out more frequently… sure every once in a while.. what ev! But everyday, we should eat good body building foods that are actually going to make us look and feel great! Calorie counting has become such a big scene because, many people just eat and humans work so much better when numbers are involved… its just how we are you tell us a time frame and numbers and everything seems so much easier! Of course if you are eating 8 cheese burgers… it is time to reevaluate why you are eating those burgers and why so much!… again a relationship with food… not nessarily go okay well i can eat two bits of the burger and be fine… no.. not a healthy choice and not satisfying!
The new diets need to emphasize life style changes and feeling good about eating good for you food and not gorging! Don’t super stress about numbers! Figure out how much and what makes you tick and be an ideal weight.
