Why do the tops of my knees hurt?
Both of the tops of my knees hurt. Both started at the same time, there is nothing I did in terms of exercise where this could be coming from. It feels like the knee caps I guess, they feel weak, and when I bend down, or do anything like a squat motion, they hurt and feel like they are not able to support me on the way back up. More specifically, the pain and weak feeling really increases when I am pushing up from a squat like position.
You should see a doctor because pain is not normal and proper diagnosis is the first step to treatment and relief. It sounds like you might have patello-femoral pain syndrome (runner’s knee) and its a common complaint. The good news is that with physical therapy and proper exercise you can relieve the symptoms. Its not something you just want to ignore because if its root cause is not addressed then the pain will continue or become chronic (come and go) and who wants that for the rest of their life? In addition, should you be wearing away the cartilage from the back of your kneecap you could face arthritis down the road – and that is not so easily treated.
